About Me

About Jim Higgins

The Story Behind My Passion for Comics

I’ve been immersed in the comics business as a writer and editor for over 25 years, and have been a screenwriter and comics consultant for films and TV. I was nominated for an Eisner Award, the Oscars of the comics industry. I was an editor at DC Comics in their eclectic Paradox Press division, which did groundbreaking graphic novels, such as Road to Perdition, The Big Book of Grimm, and The Big Book of the 70s, under the direction of Andy Helfer. I’m the editor and publisher of New Thing, an international anthology of short comics stories.

I taught cinema studies at The City University of New York. I’ve taught classes on writing and drawing comics at some of the most prestigious art schools in the country, including The School of Visual Arts, CalArts, UCLA Extension, Otis College of Art and Design, and others. My 12-episode show on drawing comics, “Crafting Comics with Jim Higgins” was produced by Nerdist for their web site and Amazon Prime.
